8 Real Online Dating Success Stories of People Over 40 – MindBodyGreen

“I had sent a flirt on my profile on a dating site about two months before. I didn’t have a profile picture, so just what I wrote attracted him. Or maybe I was one of those catfish that flirt with anyone and everyone, playing a numbers game for someone to answer. But there was their flirting, sitting there for months without knowing me because I wasn’t connected; I wasn’t even looking. But an empty nest and wanderlust called, and out of curiosity to see what was floating around out there, I logged in. And there was not one, but two messages addressed to me, the woman with no photos.

The site we were on doesn’t allow you to look at photos unless you’ve also uploaded a photo. So, I searched through my photo archives, found a few, and posted them, literally for 20-30 minutes at most. Suddenly, a message calls out to me. It’s him and we start chatting.

We chatted online through the site for about an hour. Then we moved on to the phone. We must have talked for almost 12 hours the first day we “met”. He suggested we meet the next day. As much as I had enjoyed our long conversation, I hesitated because of the differences in where we were both in our lives. I finally agreed to meet him at a local mall – I’m not a big fan of long walks outside in the dead of winter, plus it was a public place, in case I turned out to be a scumbag. I left home late, this fear of success or failure held me back. Finally, I was late and offered to buy him the first of many coffees we shared that day. We must have walked miles, covering every square inch of the mall and never run out of things to say. Since that moment, we have been almost inseparable. It’s been a year so far, and I have to say that one of the best things I did was to ignore all the reasons I had rejected him and take the opportunity to meet him in person. He’s become my best friend and my love, and the life we’ve been building together is so much more exciting and fulfilling than the solo nomadic empty nester life I thought I wanted.”
