The leading dating app for Black folx, BLK, reveals the dating trends among Gen Z Black women.
For black women, not feeling safe in America is no secret. However, these statistics also translate to the dating app experience, as 66% of Gen Z women do not feel safe on mainstream dating apps. Fortunately, 78% feel safer at BLK.
When it comes to finance and love, BLK’s stats reflect a different story than the constant social media debates. 73% of women are looking for long-term relationships, with “good communication” and “trust” cited as the most important qualities. However, in the case of finances, 82% of women were “dating someone long-term who made less money than them,” leaving aside the conversation about splitting accounts.
Surprisingly, black women are no longer swayed by partners who describe themselves as “ambitious, determined” or “resourceful,” BLK claims. “Historically, black women have been discriminated against in the workplace and have had fewer opportunities to advance in their careers. This may make them less likely to value ambition or determination in themselves, because these traits they don’t always lead them to success.”
However, the biggest issue for BLK users is “finding someone who shares their cultural experiences and values.” Because women of color have a unique experience with racism, an understanding and supportive partner is non-negotiable. On a worse note, 73% of Black Gen Z women “feel they have to work harder than other races to be seen as attractive when they go out, highlighting the impact of societal beauty standards on self-perception and confidence of people”.
Finally, a few, exactly 16% of BLK black women are looking for friendship. So for those of you who prioritize community, hoping to find your tribe of singles, BLK may be a good match for you.
