Israeli Tinder scammer loses Instagram lawsuit after failing to show up in court



Simon Leviev, an Israeli con artist popularly known as the “Tinder scammer“following a hit Netflix documentary of the same name that covered his escapades, the Tel Aviv District Court ordered him to pay social media platform Instagram 20,000 NIS ($5,800) in legal fees after of not appearing in court, the Hebrew site Mako. reported on Tuesday.

In addition, the judge ordered him to pay the state NIS 5,000 ($1,450).

Leviev, whose real name is Shimon Hayut, filed a lawsuit against Instagram’s parent company Meta Inc in February 2022 after the platform refused to verify his account, according to Mako.

Leviev claimed Instagram failed to secure his personal account, which was hacked and deleted, or remove impersonators.

After receiving the sentence in absentia, Leviev told Mako that he was not aware of the hearing and planned to appeal.

“It is possible that they sent a letter and I never received it. Either way, I will appeal,” he said.

Leviev added that he was already concerned about two other lawsuits: one from the family of Russian-Israeli diamond magnate Lev Leviev for impersonation, and another from a young woman who claimed that he. allegedly made him large sums of money.
