ITV’s new middle-aged dating show isn’t a Love Island spin-off | Radio Times

While the winter season of Love Island may be underway, another series has quickly taken over the reality dating conversation.

After months of rumors about some sort of dating show for older contestants, ITV has put out a call on its website for new series The Romance Retreat.

The trash says: “ITV1 are looking for vibrant single dads from across the UK who are looking for love, for a brand new dating show!

“This is the only dating show where single parents can look for love, spending time in a luxury retreat, where all parents have been nominated by their grown children.”

In the online post, we also seem to get a look at the villa that will be used in The Romance Retreat, which shows a modern mansion and a large front lawn area.

The upcoming series has been labeled a “Middle Age Island spin-off”, but RadioTimes.com understands the series is a completely different format and is not connected to Love Island, as previous reports claimed.

A television source for The sun said: “Times are changing and today’s generation in their 40s and 50s still cares about how they look, being fit and healthy, being fashionable and willing to let their hair down.

“This show will give those who settled down young a second chance at love while they’re still in their prime.

“And let’s face it, they know his mind will be capable of intelligent conversation and he’s likely to be a lot more adventurous, all ingredients they sometimes lack on Love Island.”

No other details about The Romance Retreat have been confirmed at the moment, only that it is not connected to the popular dating show currently on our screens.

As for who will be hosting the new series, there are likely to be rumours, especially since Davina McCall hinted that she could be in the running. Appearing on Steven Bartlett’s (Dragons’ Den) podcast The Diary of a CEO in January, McCall revealed he had pitched the idea to ITV.

He explained: “I could fill a villa on Love Island with middle-aged people with the best backstories you’ve ever heard in your life.

“They’ve lived a life — they’re widows, they’re people who’ve been through horrible divorces. They’re people who’ve broken up with someone and decided they want to try dating someone of the same sex as them. They’re like interesting people. I would watch this program”.

According to McCall, ITV responded to his request to host this program format, saying: “We’re looking at something else that’s quite similar, we might consider you for that.”

For now, we’ll just have to wait and see.
