Suniel Shetty on fading stardom in Bollywood

Having been in the industry for years, Suniel Shetty has seen a lot of changes in Bollywood. The actor, who has always been open about his thoughts on various film-related topics, was recently asked if superstars are fading in Bollywood. Shetty, who agreed with the statement, shared that actors are everywhere now.

Talking to Pinkvilla, the actor said, “Yes, because they (actors) are everywhere. Airport se nikalte huye dikh rahe hai, gym se nikalte huye dikh rahe hai, restaurant me dikh rahe hai, kisike party mein dikh rahe hai, kutte ko walke pe le ke jate huye dikh rahe hain.” [Translation: One can spot actors anywhere nowadays, they are being spotted at the airport, gym, restaurant, someone’s party, walking their dogs]

Shetty added that when you start watching too much of one thing, you get tired and that’s what he thinks is happening. He also said that people tend to celebrate things that others in the world cannot afford.

Shetty further opined that the audience has started to become alienated. “Sushi ke photo daal raha hu, Maldives em swimming trunk em photo daal raha hu, Maybach chalate huye daal raha hu. Public ko lag raha hai yeh hain kaun?” [Translation: Actors post pictures of their food, vacations and cars on social media. It makes the viewers question them]

This is not the first time someone from the industry has commented on fading stardom in Bollywood. With the increased use of social media apps, including Instagram and Twitter, a large part of the lives of Bollywood celebrities is available to fans.
