Tinder has introduced new features that allow users to set their relationship type and display up to four pronouns on their profile. The LGBTQIA+ community is the fastest growing group on the platform, with many young users identifying as more fluid in their sexuality and gender identity. Available relationship types include monogamy, ethical non-monogamy, open relationship, polyamory, and open to exploration.
Dating app Tinder is rolling out several new features to the platform, including Relationship Types and Pronouns. Users can now set the type of relationship they want and choose up to four pronouns to display on their dating profile.
The option to select relationship types is available in India along with USA, Brazil, France, Thailand, Sweden, Mexico, Canada, Australia and more. Meanwhile, pronouns are currently only available in the US.
Tinder said the LGBTQIA+ community is the fastest growing group on the platform. It said that among 18-25 year olds, 33% agree that their sexuality is more fluid and 29% say their gender identity has become more fluid in the past 3 years .
“To help everyone share their true identity, members can choose up to four pronouns to display on their profile from a list of more than 15 options, in addition to their sexual orientation and gender,” Tinder said.
Relationship types on Tinder include monogamy, ethical non-monogamy, open relationship, polyamory, and open to exploration.
“While 52 percent of Gen Z prefer monogamous relationships, 41 percent of them are open or seeking non-monogamous relationships, open relationships (36 percent) and hierarchical polyamory (26 percent) are the most popular types of non-monogamous relationships.” said Tinder.
For those who don’t know all the different types of relationships, we’ll bring you up to speed.
*Monogamy is when an individual has only one partner at a time.
*Ethical non-monogamy is where, you guessed it, people leave their primary relationship for sex or romance, but with the consent of the primary partner.
*Open relationship is also like ethical non-monogamy where you are always allowed to have sex with other people outside of your primary relationship.
*Polyamory is also a type of non-monogamous relationship, but here individuals have multiple love relationships at the same time with the knowledge and consent of all parties involved.
*Open to exploration is that users are unsure of the type of relationship they want.
Previously, Tinder launched “Relationship Goals” on the platform. This helps users highlight what they want in a relationship. Options include long-term relationship, open long-term short, open short-term long, short-term, new friends, or still figuring it out. Tinder said 40 percent of members are looking for a long-term relationship, while 13 percent are looking for a short-term hookup.
